Navigation: From Almont, CO head east on County Rd 742 for 34.6 miles passing Taylor Park Reservoir. Turn left onto Forest Rd 759 and go 6.4 miles. Turn right at the private property gate and go 0.7 miles. There will be a left turn down hill to Italian Creek. Follow this 4WD road down into the valley and then back up to Spring Creek Pass. The road going up the steep climb to the left is the American Flag 4WD road.
History: Most likely this road was created to get to the top of American Flag Mountain. There isn't mining activity along the road or at the top of the mountain.
Description:
American Flag 4WD road is a short road that climbs from Spring Creek Pass off of the Italian Creek 4WD road to the top of American Flag Mountain. The road starts climbing to a section where their are two ways. The left side is not as difficult, but both sides are steep.

The road will skirt the top of the sheer cliffs of American Flag Mountain. There area a few places where you will get a good view down to Italian Creek. Two of the points have spur roads that go over to the edge where you can get a dramatic picture of your vehicle at the top of the cliff.

The climb up continues at a slightly less steep grade until you reach a wide flat plateau. This is to top of the mountain.

From the parking area you can walk over to the American Flag that is flying in the wind on a small point above the cliff edge.

Heading back down the way you came will give you a view of the Italian Creek 4WD road and Spring Creek Pass.
