Summary: Bunce School Road is an easy 4WD road that runs from near Allenspark, Colorado to Peaceful Valley Campground. There is one rocky spot to navigate.
Attractions: Bunce School Road is an easy 4WD road that has some challenging side roads off of it, Ironclads, Bunce School Cutoff, and the T-33 Crash Site road.

Closed by heavy snows. The southern end is closed when the Middle St. Vrain, FR114, closes seasonally at the end of November.

Camping: Bunce School Road has most of its dispersed camp sites at the northeast end of the road, but campsites exist all along it.
Base Camp: This would be a good area to base camp to explore other 4WD roads in the area like T-33 Crash Site, FR203, Middle St. Vrain, FR114, Ironclads, FR216, Rock Creek, FR116.2, and Taylor Mountain, FR330.
Fall Colors: Average. There are aspen groves at the northeast end of Bunce School Road.
Navigation: From Allenspark, Colorado head southeast on Highway 7 for 3.7 miles. Turn right off of Hwy 7 onto South St. Vrain Drive. This is the entrance to the historic Bunce School House. Head southwest from the school house taking the lefthand road at the intersection. In less than a quarter mile you will reach public lands and a large parking area.

From Lyons, Colorado take Main Street west and turn left onto Highway 7. Follow Hwy 7 for 15 miles to South St. Vrain Drive. This is the entrance to the historic Bunce School House. Head southwest from the school house taking the lefthand road at the intersection. In less than a quarter mile you will reach public lands and a large parking area.

From Nederland, Colorado head west on West 2nd Street. This becomes Highway 72, the Peak to Peak Highway. Follow Hwy 72 for 21.5 miles to its intersection with Highway 7. Turn left onto Hwy 7 and go 0.6 miles to South St. Vrain Drive. This is the entrance to the historic Bunce School House. Head southwest from the school house taking the lefthand road at the intersection. In less than a quarter mile you will reach public lands and a large parking area.

Description:
From the parking area at the north end of Bunce School Road you will head southwest. Just past the parking lot is the intersection with FR115.1A to the right. This is a spur road that ends at private property within a half mile. Continuing on Bunce School Road, FR105 you will come to another intersection within a half mile. To the left is Cave Creek FR217 which heads down to Hwy 72. Continue to the right to stay on FR105.

In about 0.2 miles you will come to the next intersection. To the right is the Ironclads, FR216, which climbs around Ironclad Mountain. Stay to the left to stay on FR 105.

At 3/4 of a mile from the last intersection you will pass an access to private property which is gated. This section of Bunce School Road is mostly on private property. Please respect their land. From here you will climb a short distance up onto a flat ridge that is forested with pine trees. There are few views through this part of the road.

Bunce School Road is a favorite for winter Snow Runs. It has mostly flat terrain and offers a few short hills for challenges.

Just before making a short hairpin turn you will have entered public lands again. This is where you will climb a few rocky outcrops and rocky section. At the start of the wider hairpin turn that follows is a spur road to the left. This is FR213.1 which dead ends in 0.2 miles. This second hairpin turn is much rougher with larger rocks to navigate. After making the second hairpin turn you will cross back onto private property in a half mile.

You will come out of the trees finally and pass along a fenced property that encompasses the open meadow to your right. After passing another small meadow you will once again be on public lands. You will come to an intersection with Park Creek, FR202.1, to your right. Continue on FR105, to the left. You will come to a switchback that starts the descent down to the Middle St. Vrain creek below. You will do a second swtichback before connecting with the paved road in Peaceful Valley campground. To the left will take you to Hwy 72. To the right will take you to Camp Dick campground and the Middle St. Vrain 4WD road trailhead.
