History:
Description:
The Medicine Bow 4WD road on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District is a wide graded road that runs from the Pinkham Creek, FR204.1, road north to the Wyoming and Colorado border. Starting from the south end of the Medicine Bow road you will cross a cattle guard and come to an intersection. The road to the right is a spur road, FR516G, which is 0.86 miles long. It will pass a dispersed campsite and head northeast and end in the forest. Stay to the left.

After about a mile and a half from the start you will come to the Village Belle mine. I don't know any history on this mine.

Next you will come to another intersection. The road to the left is Village Belle, FR213, 4WD road. Stay to the right to continue on the Medicine Bow 4WD road.

I have not driven this road past the intersection. The following is based on Google Earth.

The Medicine Bow road will continue through the forest, shortly coming to another intersection. The road on the left, FR213.2A, will drop down to the west to connect with the Village Belle road. Staying to the right you will pass a dispersed campsite on the left and then come to another intersection. The road on the right is FR516A which is a spur road that heads northeast for 1.26 miles ending above Boswell Creek. Staying the left you will continue along the top of the Medicine Bow Range through the forest. You will pass a dispersed campsite on the right and then come to another intersection. The road to the right is a spur road, FR516C, which heads east for 0.62 miles ending above a side drainage of Boswell Creek. Stay to the left to continue on Medicine Bow. The road will continue for a long distance through the forest before coming to another intersection. The road on the right is FR516D, another spur road that goes to the east for 0.65 miles. Staying left on the main road you will come to another intersection. The road on the left is FR516.1E which heads mainly west for 1.81 miles before coming out on Highway 127. Staying right on the main road it is only a half mile to the Colorado and Wyoming border where the road changes to FR526D and takes you into Mountain Home, WY.
