History: Rock Creek road was first laid in for some limited timbering evidenced by the short spur roads that follow the valleys contours. Later it was to be the access road for the Rock Creek Ski Area which is still shown on the map about half way along the road.
Description:
Rock Creek is an easy 4WD road that leaves Allenspark / Ferncliff and heads south, southwest into a steep walled valley that cherry stems into the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The end of the Rock Creek 4WD road is a trail head for the St. Vrain Mountain hiking trail. The 4WD road passes the location of the Rock Creek Ski Area though nothing exists at the site. About three quarters of the way to the end FR116.2C crosses to the north side Rock Creek and heads up parallel to FR116.2. FR116.2C has a wide road bed but the trees encroach along the road and will brush the side of your vehicle. FR116.2C ends after 1/2 mile passing two short side spurs that follow the landscape contours.
