History:
Description:
Starting from the south end, off of the Coughlin Meadows Road, you will follow a two track up a small gulch. You will come to a building on your right, and then an intersection. The road to the right that climbs up the steep side of the gulch is not a legal route. Stay to the left to continue on FR228. The road will continue to follow the gulch through thicker forested areas. After about three quarters of a mile from the start you will come to an intersection. The right is a short spur, FR228.1D, that connects with the Gordon Gulch, FR233, road. Stay to the left to climb up a low hill to a more open area. There will be a few dispersed campsites here. Continue down the other side of the hill, passing a few more spurs to dispersed campsites. You will come out into a small meadow in a shallow gulch, then head west. You will pass areas where fencing has been placed to keep people on the road. The road will then tie into the Matchless, FR228, road. If you go left you will end up at Highway 72.

The rest of the Upham Gulch roads, FR228.1A, FR228.1B, FR228.1C are accessed from the Gordon Gulch, FR233, road. They are a double loop off of the Gordon Gulch road with FR228.1C being less used and tighter in the trees. See the map.
