| Description: | |||||||||||||||
The Adams Lake 4WD road is a short spur road off of Blair Mountain, FR601, 4WD road that climbs a bench up to Adams Lake sitting below the south part of Blair Mountain. The road is a two track that heads across an open area slowly climbing toward a bench off of Blair Mountain.
The first obstacle is a small rise in the road with an outcrop running across the road at an angle. After climbing this challenge you will immediately come to the second obstacle.
This second obstacle is much more of a challenge due to the similar rock outcrop across the road, but with a much longer and steeper climb. The slope of the obstacle is toward the hill with a large berm on the outside of the road. Some people have driven up the outer berm of the road to avoid the large steps of the outcrop. This bypass is also steep and rocky but it is exposed on both sides leaving little room for error.
I have not driven the second obstacle or what is beyond due to a broken front driveshaft. The following description is from viewing Google Earth. Past the second obstacle the road will flatten out and head up a shallow valley through some open areas. The road will remain rocky as it makes a curve to the left coming to a large mude hole. Past the mud hole the forest gets thicker and you have one more rocky section to drive before coming to the shore of Adams Lake. There is a spur road to the left that follows the shore of the lake to a dispersed campsite. The main road continues to the right passing another dispersed camp site before officially ending a short distance past the north end of the lake. From here head back to the Blair Mountain road. |
