History:
Description:
Starting from CR20 the Smith Mesa road is a wide two track that heads north across a grassy mesa. The road will cross a cattle guard, where you cross from state lands to BLM lands, and then pass what looks like a drive in theater screen on the right that is probably part of the communication towers on Mount Bross.

The road will drop over a ridge and head down across a low saddle with some small groves of aspen.

The road will climb up the other side of the saddle and come to an intersection. The road on the right is Mount Bross, BLM27591, which climbs to the top of Mount Bross. Stay to the left and you will head into aspen trees.

You will come out into an open area and then come to another intersection. The road on the right is another part of the Mount Bross 4WD road. It climbs through aspens to the top of Mount Bross and connects with the first Mount Bross road. Stay to the left and continue through the aspens.

The road will continue to climb through the aspen trees along the side of Mount Bross until you come to a sharp hairpin curve to the left. After making this curve you will pass a dispersed campsite on the right. Next you will come to a large intersection. The road on the left heads down Jensen Creek following some power lines. This is BLM27595 wich will pass another dispersed campsite on the left side of the road. Past the campsite the road will go just over a quarter of a mile before it crosses onto private property and continues down the creek. Back at the intersection continue to the right to stay on the main road. You make a left curve and pass under a power line as it heads through some aspens that have been thinned. After climbing a bit more you will come to another intersection. The road on the right is Smith Mesa, Lower, BLM2762, which heads north along the east side of Smith Mesa. Continue to the left and head west through some open areas and small aspen groves. After making a curve to the north you will come to another intersection with a dispersed campsite on the left. Behind the campsite a faint two track road, BLM27596, heads west then back east below the road your on. Stay to the right and continue to climb up Smith Mesa.

You will continue to head north through open areas and then pass under a high power line. You will pass a spur road on the left, BLM27597, which is a two track that only goes a short distance. Continue right and you will come to a spur road on the left and right that both go a short distance to access areas that were thinned. Continue straight through the intersection and you will head into a thick pine forested area. The road will continue up through the forest and come to an intersection with BLM27598 on the right. This is another access road for forest thinning that goes less than a half mile. Continue left and you will come out into a more open area which has been thinned. The road will head back into the trees passing another short spur on the right. You will head through more aspen trees coming out into some open areas and then make the last climb up to a loop turn around where the road ends.
