Description: | |||||||||||||||
Starting from the Lost Dog, FR433, road you will be on a single lane two track gravel road that will head down off the ridge toward the North Fork of the Elk River. You will pass through low shrubs and small aspen trees.
The road will make a hard switchback after heading north for a while and start to drop down toward the North Fork of the Elk River. After the switchback the road will get a bit rocky as it heads down hill.
After two more short switchbacks you will pass where the Wyoming Trail, FT1101, crosses the road.
Just past this intersection you will cross a bridge over the North Fork of the Elk River. After crossing the bridge there will be a lot of dispersed campsites in a wide open area on both sides of the road. The road will climb up a bit and then pass the Diamond Park Trial, FT1189 on the left. It will continue into the brush and follow on the west side of the river. The road will leave the river and continue through some low rolling hills.
Shortly you will make a left turn and come to a small gravel parking area. This is the Diamond Park Trailhead. The Main Fork Trail, FT1152, heads north from the parking area. The 4WD road continues west as Farwell Mountain, FR409, road. It will climb up Farwell Mountain and then head to Hahns Peak. |
